Pardon me, but I feel that it wouldn't really do much of a help. For example if I take the bus from Clementi Ave 2, for service 532, would I be sure that there will be empty seats? Take it as the last stop before the express sector. There would be times when more people will take the bus, and there is only one on the service.
Any bus I also don't mind lah, its just the comfortable factor and timing...

That;s the whole point. They want everyone that boards the bus to have a seat.
You pay 3 bucks for a seat why not? Can sleep on the way to work somemore
High chance Volvo SDs will be operated. None of the Mk4s varients have standing area. Unless they use ComDel's private bus which is totally not in line with PTC requirements.

the good old 198 and 97e.u cut at least half the time with the new service. 198 - 97e is in fact more expensive than the new service. cutting journey time during morning peak means people can wake up later

are the premium services subjected to "duplication with MRT" regulations?I think they should be, but I can't be sure. Actually, I agree with you on your first point. If SBST wants to introduce this service, why didn't they cut 501 to AMK during the duplication?

Some buses or premium services?
If premium services, I believe these will help a fair bit:
Choa Chu Kang to Shenton Way District (routing in CCK up to you), may x2, one to cover CCK Crescent and the Yew Tee area, the other for Central?
Bukit Panjang to Shenton Way District (routing in BPJ up to you)
Woodlands to Shenton Way District (routing in WDL up to you), may x2.
Bukit Batok to Shenton Way District (routing in BBT up to you), may x2. (one straight from BBT West Avenue 3 --> Central --> East Avenue 3 --> EXPRESS, the other from Bukit Gombak area?)
Yishun to Shenton Way District (not sure about this area. Haha)
